7-Eleven’s Store Technology organization is seeking an experienced Store Systems Engineering Manager to lead the software engineering strategy and delivery for point-of-sale and related store technology platforms.

This leader will manage engineering teams responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting reliable POS software used in a high-volume retail environment. The role partners with Product, Store Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, maintainable, and easy-to-support software for stores.

The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with deep experience in POS or transaction-processing software, cloud-native engineering, distributed systems, integrations, and modern software delivery practices.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Lead, coach, and develop software engineering teams delivering POS software and Store Systems capabilities across the full product lifecycle.
  • Define and execute the engineering roadmap for POS applications, services, integrations, APIs, and supporting platforms.
  • Establish technical direction and architecture for secure, reliable, scalable, and highly available POS software.
  • Lead solution evaluation, technical design, architecture reviews, code reviews, testing strategy, release planning, production support, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Product and Store Operations to translate business and store requirements into clear technical solutions and delivery plans.
  • Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform modernization, maintainability, resiliency, and total cost of ownership.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, resource needs, and delivery timelines; communicate trade-offs clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Improve software development practices, engineering standards, quality controls, and operational readiness across the team.
  • Drive adoption of Agile/Scrum and SAFe practices from design through development, testing, implementation, production, and support.
  • Define and execute the cloud technology strategy for Store Systems, aligned with enterprise DevOps, architecture, security, and digital priorities.
  • Drive adoption of CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code, containerized deployments, automated testing, and disciplined release management.
  • Partner with Cyber Security & follow architecture guidelines to implement security controls, governance, disaster recovery, resilience, and compliance requirements.
  • Establish and track engineering KPIs and OKRs, including delivery predictability, quality, reliability, availability, incident reduction, and business value.
  • Build a high-performance engineering culture through hiring, mentoring, career development, knowledge sharing, and structured learning plans.
  • Research and evaluate technologies that improve POS software performance, store reliability, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Present delivery outcomes, investment needs, risks, and technical recommendations to executives and business stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION: Bachelors/4 Yr Degree, bachelor’s with 12+ years of experience or master's degree with 10+ years of experience in computer science

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 12+ years

YEARS OF MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE: 5+ years

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience or master's degree with 10+ years of experience in computer science
  • 12+ years software engineering experience, 5+ years engineering leadership experience, and proven success leading enterprise-scale engineering organizations.
  • Strong expertise in enterprise architecture, distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, integration patterns, and secure software development.
  • Deep knowledge of Quality Engineering, QA Automation, automation frameworks, performance testing, TDD, BDD, and test strategy development.
  • Advanced cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, and platform engineering experience.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, vendor management, budget ownership, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Lead development of transaction-oriented software that can support high volume, low latency, and strong availability requirements.
  • Establish engineering patterns for POS application services, REST APIs, integrations, data access, messaging, and event-driven workflows.
  • Guide application modernization and migration from legacy technologies to maintainable cloud-native services with minimal business disruption.
  • Ensure software is designed for observability, troubleshooting, monitoring, incident response, disaster recovery, and production support.
  • Promote automated unit, integration, functional, performance, and regression testing appropriate for POS and retail systems.
  • Collaborate across engineering and operations teams to resolve complex production issues and improve root-cause analysis and problem management.
  • Ensure technical documentation, support procedures, release processes, and operational handoffs are complete and sustainable.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in retail, store technology, POS, self-checkout, payments, or distributed field operations.
  • Experience modernizing legacy POS or store systems to cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience leading large-scale data or application migrations with near-zero downtime.
  • Experience working with enterprise product teams, store operations, vendors, and cross-functional technology organizations.
